Book Blogger Test

What can I say – another award!  Thank you to Ella from My Favourite Recipes for nominating me!

Here we go 🙂

Rules

  1. Thank the person who nominated you and add a link to their blog
  2. Answer the ten questions asked on this post
  3. Nominate at least five people to do it also
  4. Let your nominees know you nominated them

Q&A

Since Ella didn’t write any questions, I’m assuming you’re supposed to do the ten questions the previous person answered…?

1. What are your top 3 book pet peeves?

  • Typos/bad grammar.  Rarely happens in good books, but definitely stick out to me if they do and pulls me out of the story.
  • Long and boring introductions.  Show, don’t tell.  Basic technique, come on!
  • Unnecessary killing of characters.  Sometimes, it can get a bit repetitive and you become desensitised.  What happened to the connection you built with the character?  So unfair!

2. Describe your favourite reading spot.

I have a bean bag next to my bookshelf, but it’s a bit dusty atm after several months of not using it during exams and whilst on holiday.  Sometimes I go outside to read too!

3. Tell us 3 book confessions.

  • I liked reading everything since I was a kid.  I’d pick up cereal boxes, DVD cases, catalogues – anything with words – and read.  Unlike most parents, mum would tell me to stop reading (the poor parents who can’t get their children to read must love to have this problem!)
  • I haven’t read a piece of fiction in agesssss…  But when I do, I like reading classics.
  • I like reading non-fiction.  I’m weird.

4. When was the last time you cried during a book?

I don’t usually cry during books…  But the last time I did cry was during Fahrenheit 451, and I won’t say why to avoid any spoiler upsets.

5. How many books are on your bedside table?

At the moment, my bedside table is my desk and my desk is very messy so I’d say about 3?  (That I can see)

6. What’s your favourite snack to eat while you’re reading?

When I’m reading and eating (or watching TV and eating or doing anything and eating) I don’t pay attention to what I’m eating so I could literally eat anything crunchy and yummy.  I tend to go with something healthy because I don’t pay attention anyway so usually celery sticks.

7. Name 3 books you would recommend to anyone.

  • The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien
  • And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
  • The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying by Marie Kondo (I know, non-fiction and what’s worse it’s a self-help book – but it is genuinely eye-opening and helps teach you how to clear up the clutter for a better life)

8. Show us a picture of your favourite book on your bookshelf.

Like Ella, I borrow my books from the library.

9. Describe how much books mean to you in just 3 words.

Expanding mind’s perspective.  Pretentious words but true.

10. What is your biggest reading secret?

I don’t have one right now but back when I was 13-ish Twilight was the biggest thing ever and everyone had read it.  I pretended to have read it too so that I could talk about it but I never did because I just found it too soppy and predictable.  I have better things to do with my time 😉

  2. The Bookish Wanderer

  1. Well done. Hope all ok over in old Blighty.
Coldest winter in ages down here. Beautiful day today though. Had to stop the Bard picking fights in the cbd on his lunch break. No wonder my cat loves him. 😸😹

      • Look after yourself. Hopefully this week has gone well for you. A lot of change going on around here… people leaving jobs and relationship. Dynamic

      • Thanks. Eclipse in about 24 hours. Hope things don’t get any more complicated in some cases. Early Monday morning here now. Very cold again. Last week it seemed the cold had ended.

      • Eclipse will be seen in the States in 4 and a half hours. Won’t see it here in Australia. Many astrologers believe it is politically significant. Several members of the FAA have Oxford qualifications

      • Liz Greene is the obvious one though I recommend Lynn Bell. She’s a Parisian who lives in NYC. Astrology and astronomy should never have been divorced. The history of how and who is much the same as the Spanish Inquisition. Take care xx

      • 😊 take care. Always good seeing your posts. Your presentation and explanation is brilliant. You young ones get better all the time in some cases

      • Thanks, that’s a lovely thing to hear 🙂 I always enjoy reading yours, even though sometimes they are a bit difficult to understand!

      • Hmmm… why is it Jess that the blokes who carry on like they are upstanding Christians when I turn on my filthy mouth in a boy’s setting, are always cheating on spouse and family???
Funny one I have observed in my career…. 🤔😇

      • I haven’t noticed this, but I guess it must be because their guilty consciences are causing them to act more upright when they observe others being less correct? Who knows…

      • Bizarre. Hey do you trash talk too? Maybe it is a sign of intelligent and trustworthy people…. ie: no trying to conceal the shadow we all have 😄

      • I find it a sign of honesty. Not at the wrong place though. Nothing worse than a terrible speech at an important function though it might be a celebration

      • I like the ones policing equality for gays. None of my friends who are people before identified as gay, have ever felt unequal unless in the company of such people. I guess that is why it took a couple of queens to kick my ass when I got off the booze 18 years ago. Not only do they know what a real battle and being an outsider is…. the real men and women don’t need to make a display of it all in the manner prescribed by the 4th estate or anyone else with a secondary interest.
Blessed be girl. Kick ass the rest of the week 😅

  4. Hello Jess! Thank you for the nomination. I’ll post the tag real soon. So honored to be included in your list. Also, I’ve been wanting to read that Marie Kondo book for so long. So glad that it’s in your recommendations. 💕

    • You’re very welcome, I’m looking forward to reading it! Yes it was fascinating but I would definitely recommend reading it when you have a little bit more time because you’ll definitely want to put it into practice right away!
