Q&A

Since Ella didn’t write any questions, I’m assuming you’re supposed to do the ten questions the previous person answered…?

1. What are your top 3 book pet peeves?

• Typos/bad grammar.  Rarely happens in good books, but definitely stick out to me if they do and pulls me out of the story.
• Long and boring introductions.  Show, don’t tell.  Basic technique, come on!
• Unnecessary killing of characters.  Sometimes, it can get a bit repetitive and you become desensitised.  What happened to the connection you built with the character?  So unfair!

2. Describe your favourite reading spot.

I have a bean bag next to my bookshelf, but it’s a bit dusty atm after several months of not using it during exams and whilst on holiday.  Sometimes I go outside to read too!

3. Tell us 3 book confessions.

• I liked reading everything since I was a kid.  I’d pick up cereal boxes, DVD cases, catalogues – anything with words – and read.  Unlike most parents, mum would tell me to stop reading (the poor parents who can’t get their children to read must love to have this problem!)
• I haven’t read a piece of fiction in agesssss…  But when I do, I like reading classics.
• I like reading non-fiction.  I’m weird.

4. When was the last time you cried during a book?

I don’t usually cry during books…  But the last time I did cry was during Fahrenheit 451, and I won’t say why to avoid any spoiler upsets.

5. How many books are on your bedside table?

At the moment, my bedside table is my desk and my desk is very messy so I’d say about 3?  (That I can see)

6. What’s your favourite snack to eat while you’re reading?

When I’m reading and eating (or watching TV and eating or doing anything and eating) I don’t pay attention to what I’m eating so I could literally eat anything crunchy and yummy.  I tend to go with something healthy because I don’t pay attention anyway so usually celery sticks.

7. Name 3 books you would recommend to anyone.

• The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien
• And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
• The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying by Marie Kondo (I know, non-fiction and what’s worse it’s a self-help book – but it is genuinely eye-opening and helps teach you how to clear up the clutter for a better life)

8. Show us a picture of your favourite book on your bookshelf.

Like Ella, I borrow my books from the library.

9. Describe how much books mean to you in just 3 words.

Expanding mind’s perspective.  Pretentious words but true.

10. What is your biggest reading secret?

I don’t have one right now but back when I was 13-ish Twilight was the biggest thing ever and everyone had read it.  I pretended to have read it too so that I could talk about it but I never did because I just found it too soppy and predictable.  I have better things to do with my time 😉
