Gung-Ho! for Cancer Research UK

I don’t have a sob story for you.

You’ve heard enough, and probably know people who have battled cancer to know how devastating this disease can be to not only the afflicted person but also their close relatives, their children, their friends, colleagues and wider community.

I am not asking you to give up your well-deserved money to reward me.  I am lucky to have this opportunity: having no IB exams hovering over my head is enough of a reward for me, and running this 5k (with inflatables, may I add) along with my friends is enough of a celebration!

Instead, I am asking you to donate a small amount of your hard-earned cash to help beat cancer sooner.

This article has not been made in conjunction with Cancer Research UK – all opinions here are my own, and I genuinely think that they are a fantastic charity to donate to.

Why Cancer Research?

Cancer causes more than 1 in 4 of all deaths in the UK (2011) and has touched my family along with many other families in the UK.

In the 1970s, less than 1/4 of people with cancer survived.  Today, 50% of cancer patients survive, and with the help of Cancer Research UK, 75% of people with cancer will survive within 20 years.

This incredible progress has been thanks to the research that has not necessarily been willingly funded by pharmaceutical companies.

Cancer Research UK fund over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses in the UK, as well as providing important statistics and information about cancer to the general public, which you can find on their site.

All sponsorships pledged to my fundraising page will go to Cancer Research UK.

What Are You Sponsoring?

I will be running a 5k course with my team W.T.F? (Where’s The Finish?), made up of recently graduated IB students who are celebrating by running a 5k (with added inflatables) together for Cancer Research UK.  Help us celebrate by donating to this worthy cause! 💪

This year we’re going Gung-Ho! so we can have a day to remember whilst raising money that’ll really help change lives.  A 5k run like no other, the Gung-Ho! course includes 10 giant inflatable obstacles to make this challenge unforgettable.

The course is totally unique and though it’s a 5K with added oomph, we’re not elite athletes!  (I’ve barely done any exercise for the past month and will continue to move very little for the next 2 months…)

We’ll be taking on gigantic ball pits, super-sized slides and a 5,000 square foot inflatable moon walk (yes you read that correctly!) and don’t forget the actual 5k running 😉

You will also be able to guess the time that we’ll finish as a team and you will be entered into our sweepstakes to win a prize 🏆

Donate a coffee’s worth of money to our run for Cancer Research UK by clicking the link or using the button on the right to help support researchers tackling some of the biggest scientific challenges in cancer research.  It would make my day!

Have you ever done a run for charity?  Do you have any tips for training or fundraising?  Let me know in the comments!
